WATCH: Emotional Soldiers Bid Farewell To Their Families As They Are To Be Deployed In Marawi!

Marawi City has been in turmoil for the past few weeks due to the attack by the Maute terror group. Pres. Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law over the whole island of Mindanao on May 23, 2017 in order to deal with the terrorist threat. Our valiant soldiers have been fighting the terrorists for weeks, and the death toll has steadily been rising for both sides.

Now, a new batch of soldiers have been deployed to the war zone and they had an emotional farewell alongside their families. 428 soldiers and 19 officers were sent to Marawi via a C-130 plane flown by the Philippine Air Force. These troops will reinforce the brave solidiers who are already risking their lives in Marawi. They are tasked with eliminating any presence of the Maute terrorist group who currently stills control 20% of Marawi.

The send-off ceremony for the soldiers of the 82nd Infantry Batallion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) was an emotional affair. The ceremony was held at the Iloilo Airport on Saturday, June 17, 2017. Even though these family members knew what their relatives were getting themselves into when they signed up for the army, they still felt deeply for their courageous loved ones. The family members hugged their beloved soldiers who will be in the thick of the fight against terror.

With danger lurking in virtually every corner of Marawi City, the soldiers and their family members could not hold back their tears, thinking that this emotional farewell might be the last time that they see each other. Netizen Marjorie Hervo commented: “Too proud of this unit.82nd IB family.

Guardians of freedom. Please do comeback alive. We will pray for you all. God bless!” Knowing full well of the dangers awaiting them in Marawi, these gallant soldiers squared their shoulders and steeled themselves for the battles to come. Their family members and, indeed, all Filipinos, should feel an overwhelming sense of pride for our brave men and women who are fighting the good fight in Marawi City.
