Tito Sotto on Pepsi Paloma case: ‘Anong kinalaman ko doon?’

Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Tuesday addressed his bashers on social media, particularly those linking him to the rape case of sexy actress Pepsi Paloma in 1982.
“There was a time they were asking about Pepsi Paloma, ano kinalaman ko doon? Hindi nila alam ang storya kaya ganoon ang tanong nila,” Sotto said in an INQ and A interview, when asked how he was dealing with online critics.

Paloma, a Filipino-American born Delia Duenas Smith, was one of the so-called “soft drink” beauties in the 1980s. She died in 1985 in what was ruled to be a suicide due to depression caused by monetary problems.

Paloma was allegedly raped by comedians Joey de Leon, Richie d’ Horsie, and Sotto’s younger brother Vic. Sotto got involved in the controversy after allegations that he used his government position to influence the court decision on Paloma’s case.

But Sotto earlier dismissed allegations as a “gimmick” of Paloma’s manager Rey dela Cruz.

Sotto admitted that criticisms from bashers used to bother him, but noted that he was able to overcome them.

“Nung una somehow naapektuhan ako kasi medyo mali ang context ng iba. Pero lately hindi na ako nagwo-worry kasi alam kong mali ‘yung thinking,” he said.
